I am a big fan of plaits, so googling all the pictures was great. But it is very hard when researching plaits and designing for your look because you have to make sure your look doesn't across too bridal. I found one great blog site that gives you tips and ways to do certain plaits. I think the crown braid would be a great plait to help start a Elizabethan for not just its name a lone, that the plait is a gorgeous way to keep the hair off the face.
It not unknown for celebrities to be up to date in the latest hair trend, so below I'll show you a collection of images of celebrities with a plait hairstyle: First photo on the left is Beyonce has a wrap around plait with her gorgeous blonde locks. I think this look is stunning and would be a great way to get the hair off the face or if you wanted a bit of hair dangling, you could curl two pieces on the side. The second image you can see Rihanna with her flaming hot red hair in a gorgeous braid. The way I would compare this photo to an elizabethan styled hair, it would be the similar fiery colour both Rihanna and Queen Elizabeth have/had. Third image is more of bridal but I picked this image because it also has a bun mixed in with the plait. I picked this photo because of the accessories placed in the plait. As it is a modern style, if you were to do something similar you could add pearls where the accessories are shown on the image. Fourth image it shows Bella Thorn with a nice top plait that links round to the back into a messy bun and also has ribbon plaited into it. This plait would look great with either ribbon in it or pearls placed in between it, so it would be a great starting point for your design as its modern but also has Elizabethan look to it.
Buns, buns and buns! Now onto buns, the first image is my favourite out of the selected images below. I think it's such a pretty design and it instantly reminded me of Elizabethan times, specifically what the servants would look like. It has such lovely detail and instantly made me think of Elizabethan times. This would look great with or without accessories to be honest, it's a look that shows Elizabethan era but if you wanted to add 21st century twist, you could add pearls or ribbon. The second one is more contemporary than Elizabethan, but thought you could add your own twist to make it more Elizabethan. It reminded of first lessons I had with Lottie, when we had to plait our Katie heads and twist it into a bun. I want to say the design looks simply but it looks rather complicated, so unless you are seriously dedicated to hair, I'd leave this one to last. The third image I saw I liked how the plait went into the bun. If done right it would pull all the hair from the back away from the neck and would be nice clean look, which was how (sometimes) Queen Elizabeth 1 had her hair when she was in power. The last image shows ribbon place in-between the plait and bun. I really like how effective this looks with the ribbon. If this was done all the way around the head, I think it would look so pretty for either Elizabethan look or even a summer look.
